Genie Backup Manager AI 10.5.2
Published 31 October 2026
See what changes. Then save.
Ask Genie to change a job and it lists each setting it changes, before and after. Everything else stays as it is.
What changed
Ask Genie knows your jobs better, and shows what a change does before you save it.
- Ask Genie now sees each job's own settings, so a change keeps your filters, compression, verification and run conditions.
- Before you save a change Genie drafted, the card shows what changes, setting by setting. A draft that changes nothing can't be saved.
- If a job was changed after Genie drafted a change to it, the draft says so and can't be saved: ask Genie again.
- Ask Genie answers more questions right, and knows more about the app, its error codes and what each edition has.
- For an image of the whole PC, Ask Genie points you to BigMind DR, free for one PC.
- Ask Genie tells your folders apart more reliably, including mail folders and cloud-sync drives.
- Ask Genie never sends your Windows user name, including inside the filter rules it now reads.
- New in the help: backing up several folders from a network share.
- New: What's new, Send to support, Request a feature and Share GBM AI are in the account menu, at the bottom of the sidebar.
- New: Request a feature sends Genie9 an idea from the app. Leave your address and we write when it ships.
- New: Share GBM AI. Friends get 20% off Home or Pro with your link; when 3 of them count, you get a Home licence, free.
- After an update, a dot on your account card points to what's new.
- Fixed: a continuous job no longer asks for attention after a quiet weekend with no changes to save.
- New: continuous protection in Pro and Server. Each change is saved within minutes: at most every 1, 5, 15 or 30 minutes.
- New: a restore timeline. Go back to any moment, zoom in to the minute, or see the whole history.
- New: put a whole folder back as it was at any moment. Nothing is written over: what changed since moves into a folder beside it.
- New: a ransomware guard on continuous jobs (Pro and Server). When files change the way ransomware changes them, nothing is saved and the last good backup is kept; Put back brings the files back as they were.
- The guard tells you at once, by a Windows notification, email and webhook if you use them, with what to do first, and again each day until you answer.
- New: right-click a file or folder in File Explorer for its previous versions (on Windows 11, under Show more options), in every edition.
- Older versions of a continuous job thin out by themselves: every save of the last day, one an hour for a week, one a day for a month, then one a week.
- Continuous jobs save to a drive, a network share or an S3 bucket (a share or a bucket at most every 15 minutes); in a locked bucket, every save is locked too.
- New: a continuous job whose drive, share or bucket is away waits, and saves everything when it is back. It can keep up to 5 GB of versions on this PC meanwhile.
- New: in a continuous job, large files such as Outlook's mailbox are saved in blocks, only the parts that changed, and while Outlook is open with the backup service.
- After a Pro trial, on Home or Free, a continuous job is saved every 15 minutes (on Free, every hour) without the ransomware guard, until Pro is back.
- Ask Genie sets up and changes continuous protection.
- Asking Genie to change a job changes only what you asked: the job keeps its other settings and its commands before and after a backup.
- A folder renamed only in its capitals (Cases to CASES) now comes back with its new name.
- A backup of a network folder restored to another folder keeps every folder in place.
- A backup of a NAS that is switched off says the NAS isn't connected, not that the folder is gone, and a continuous job waits for it.
- Backing up open files (VSS) no longer stops SQL Server's own differential backups from working.
- On the command line, gbm job run on a continuous job saves its changes and says so, instead of waiting.
- When the clocks change or the PC moves to another time zone, schedules follow the new time at once and the right backups are kept.
- A PC that sleeps through its weekly full backup now makes it when it wakes.
- A new job given the name of a renamed job no longer removes that job's backups.
- Files with very long names restore over an existing copy, and a name ending in a dot keeps your choice of what to replace.
- After encryption is turned off, the weekly check no longer reports the older encrypted backups as damaged.
- A continuous job's second copy only takes what it can restore from.
- A backup of a whole drive restored into a folder is no longer hidden in File Explorer.
- A restore's progress no longer goes past 100%.
- Jobs every 15 or 30 minutes say when they run next in minutes.
- On the day the clocks go forward, a backup set for the skipped hour runs just after the change, in every time zone.
- On Windows Server, only an administrator can take charge of the backup service, which can read and restore any file there.
- Changing a continuous job's destination starts a fresh backup there.
- While the backup drive is away, the versions kept on this PC stay within their space and move to the drive when it is back, even after a password change.
- The ransomware guard keeps the last backup from before an attack's first files, and holds until every file is back.
- Fewer false alarms from the ransomware guard, and it no longer downloads OneDrive files to look at them.
- After the PC's clock is corrected, or encryption or compression is changed, a continuous job's older versions keep thinning out in the right order.
- A backup to a network drive that keeps dropping out now stops after a while instead of running for days, and the next backup tries again.
- When the PC wakes to back up to a network drive, the backup waits for the network instead of failing.
- When GBM AI's background agent is busy, the app says so instead of saying it isn't running.
- Send to support now includes the app's own log.
- Several servers? Buy several Server licences on the website and save up to 30%.
