Releases

What changed, version by version.

The app checks for updates itself. A licence gets every version released in its year of updates, and keeps them for ever.

  1. Version 10.2.3Latest20 October 2026Windows Server, backups nobody can change, and updates that install themselves, with lower prices when you buy several licences. Home and Pro now cover 2 PCs per licence. Licences you already own keep their PCs. Several PCs? Buy several licences on the website and save up to 30%. An update no longer turns the background service back on after you turned it off, and leaves a service you disabled in Windows as it is. Updates install by themselves on a PC whose background service is disabled in Windows. A Windows Server trial now gets a reminder e-mail before it ends. New: GBM AI runs on Windows Server 2016 to 2025, Server Core included, with a Server licence or a 15-day Server trial. The Server trial can be downloaded from the website. New: updates install by themselves on every PC, without a Windows prompt. New: backups in an S3 bucket can be locked, so nobody can change or delete them before their date. New: old backups are checked now and then, and a restore takes a damaged file from the second copy. New: the backup service can run as a local or domain account, to reach shares only that account can open. New: a daily summary e-mail at the hour you choose. New: backups every 15 or 30 minutes, in Home, Pro and Server. Very large files are stored in parts of 4 GB, and fit on FAT32 drives. The gbm command line imports jobs and saves share passwords and S3 accounts. An evaluation licence pauses backups when it ends, like a trial. On Windows Server the Account page speaks of this server, and a Pro or Home key is refused there. A new help page explains how to keep a copy of your backups offsite. A backup set deleted outside the app no longer counts on the job page. A service stopped in Services stays stopped. Backups to hard disks and USB disks use less memory. Full backups no longer download Google Drive's files again. A trial no longer ends early when the PC's identity reads differently once. Home shows your recent activity when the app opens before the background agent is ready. Genie's notes on a draft job are in the app's language.7 setups · x64 and ARM64Notes and downloads

  4. Version 10.2.017 October 2026Windows Server, backups nobody can change, and updates that install themselves. 5. Version 10.1.013 October 2026Two copies of every backup, and a Genie that speaks first. New: keep a second copy of each backup on another drive, your NAS or an S3 bucket, made after every backup and checked file by file. Either copy restores on its own. New: Genie's suggestions on Home point out a folder no job backs up, a job that keeps failing, a copy that has fallen behind or a drive running out of room. Worked out on your PC; nothing is sent. New: open your backups in an S3 bucket on a new PC with just the account's keys, and restore from them. New: More from Genie9 shows Genie9's other apps for your PC and phone. With a Home or Pro licence you can hide it in Settings. Ask Genie: type your question first; Genie asks for your free Genie9 account only when it needs it, with just your email. New: Send to support sends the app's details to Genie9 support in one click and gives you a reference to quote. The window lists what is sent first; your files never are. Full backups no longer download unchanged files that OneDrive keeps online only; they are copied from the previous backup. New encrypted backups use stronger, tamper-evident encryption, and need GBM AI 10.1 or later to restore. Updates that Genie9 marks as required come back at every start until they are installed. Email alerts say so when Microsoft 365 has turned password sign-in off, and offer Genie9's email in one click. Pause works inside a large file, and an encrypted backup at maximum compression needs far less memory. The background agent stays lighter with a long history of runs.6 setups · x64 and ARM64Notes and downloads
  6. Version 10.0.6511 October 2026Fixes from the first week after launch. A backup drive that stops answering, such as a USB disk behind a hub, no longer leaves a backup or restore stuck: the app says so and carries on when the drive is back. Stop always ends a backup or restore within a minute. Backups are faster when the files and the backup are on the same hard disk. Restoring with "Keep both" adds a copy only of the files that differ from the backup. Large files to an S3 bucket need far less memory, and files over 5 GB are backed up. When this PC's own drive fills up during a backup, the app names that drive instead of the backup drive. A new Check licence now button in Account asks Genie9 straight away. A licence key Genie9 does not recognise is reported straight away, and Remove licence works for it. Large backups use less memory, and the logs are quieter.6 setups · x64 and ARM64Notes and downloads
  7. Version 10.0.634 October 2026The first release of Genie Backup Manager AI: Genie Backup Manager, rebuilt from the ground up. Your files, on a drive you own. To a disk, a USB drive, a network share or NAS, or your own S3-compatible bucket. Nothing is stored on Genie9's servers. Full, incremental, differential or mirror, with compression and AES-256 encryption. Open files are copied through a Windows snapshot. Every run to a disk, USB drive or network share is read back and checked. Filters and exclusions, with ready-made rules for the folders nobody needs back. OneDrive and Google Drive folders, even the files kept only in the cloud: each is downloaded for the backup and made online-only again, so your disk does not fill. A disk mounted into a folder you back up is backed up with it, and a link to a folder on another drive is followed. Describe a backup in a sentence, and Genie drafts the job: what to include, where it goes, when it runs. You see a dry run before anything is saved. Genie cannot run, change or delete anything on its own, and it never receives file contents, passwords or keys. Six rhythms: every few hours, daily, weekly, monthly, when you sign in, or once. With the Windows service on, backups run with nobody signed in, from the moment Windows starts. A missed backup runs as soon as the PC is back. Battery, full-screen apps and quiet hours are respected. Updates install by themselves with the Windows service, or are offered in the app. You can turn automatic updates off in Settings. Restore from any point in time, to where it was or anywhere else. Find searches every backup, even with its drive unplugged. Restore is never locked, in any edition: not on Free, not after a trial, not after a licence is cancelled. Free, for one PC and two jobs. Home and Pro are bought once, and the licence never expires; a year of updates is included. The Home and Pro setups start a 15-day trial, no card needed. What each edition includes is on the editions page. Windows 11 and 10, x64 and ARM64, in 18 languages. No telemetry.6 setups · x64 and ARM64Notes and downloads
