Ask Genie
Describe the backup you want.
Genie writes the job and shows a dry run. Nothing runs until you approve it.
Needs a free sign-in with your e-mail, and an internet connection. Backups never need an account.
Sent when you press Ask: the prompt, your drives, top-level folder names and your jobs. Never a list of your files, their contents or a password.
Four things to ask.
Create a job
“Protect everything I’d cry about losing.”
Change a job
“Also run Photos on Wednesdays.”
Understand a run
“Why did last night’s backup skip files?”
Find and restore
“Which job has my Invoices folder?”
From a sentence to a job.
Four steps. The last one is always yours.
You describe it
One sentence, in your own words.
Genie drafts it
Checked on the server and again on your PC.
A dry run
What it would copy and skip, before saving.
You decide
Save it, change it, or throw it away.
Assumptions
It shows what it guessed.
Every assumption is a line you can change before you save.
- Destination, time and retention: all editable
- Each new job gets its own destination folder
What Genie is told. Exactly.
Only when you press Ask, or Send in a conversation, and only while you are signed in.
- Your words
- Your prompt, and the conversation so far.
- This PC
- Your edition and trial state, Windows and its processor type, and the app’s language.
- Drives
- Each drive’s letter, label, kind (internal, USB, network, cloud), role, size and free space.
- Folders
- The names of the top-level folders on internal drives, each with an item count, a date and a content hint (photos, code, documents). Nothing below the top level, and nothing from USB, network or cloud drives. On by default; off in Settings ▸ General ▸ Ask Genie.
- Jobs
- Each job’s name, what it backs up (its folders, or files you ticked one by one), destination, type, schedule, whether it is on, encryption on or off, retention, health, sets, size and next run. Its recent runs as counts, error codes, skip reasons and the last error message, without file names.
- Your user folder
- Paths inside it go as {UserProfile}\…, never with your user name.
- Ask Genie why
- On a skipped file in a run report, it types a question naming that one file into Ask Genie. It is sent only if you press Ask.
- Never sent
- Your Windows user name, your PC’s name, a list of the files in your folders, file contents, passwords, keys.
Who answers.
Genie runs on Genie9’s servers, with a model from OpenAI.
- The route
- GBM AI sends it to Genie9’s server, which asks OpenAI’s model to write the job and returns the answer.
- OpenAI
- Processes the request under its API terms. API data is not used to train models; it may be kept up to 30 days for abuse monitoring.
- Genie9 keeps
- That you asked: your account e-mail, the PC, the month, token counts and the prompt’s length, for the allowance. Never the prompt’s words.
A draft is all it can make.
- Delete a backup, set or job
- Change an encryption password
- Run anything on its own
- Open or read a file
A monthly allowance.
Each prompt costs real money, so every edition includes a number. The app shows what is left.
