Availability states and deleted files
What Drive not connected, Share offline and Removed mean on a Find result, and where a file you deleted last week still is.
Updated
The index on this PC knows every file. The pill on a Find result says whether its backup can be read right now.
The states#
| Pill | What it means | What you can do |
|---|---|---|
| no pill | the destination answers | Restore… now |
| Drive not connected | the drive is not plugged in, for example Backup · last seen as H: 3 days ago. The drive is known by its volume serial, so the letter is only where it was last seen | Restore when plugged in…: the restore waits and starts by itself |
| Share offline | a network share did not answer, for example \\nas\backups didn't answer | the same waiting restore; it starts when the share answers |
| Removed | the destination answers, but the backup is no longer on it: retention removed it, or it was deleted by hand | nothing to restore. Forget this set tidies it away, or it goes by itself after 30 days |
Removed backups are left out of the results unless you choose Removed sets in the availability filter.

Deleted from source, still restorable#
A file you deleted from your PC is still in every backup that holds it, until retention removes those backups. Find keeps track:
- tick Deleted from source only to list exactly those files;
- each one carries a Deleted from source pill in the results;
- the Deleted from source, still restorable card counts them and says when the first of their copies is due to be deleted by retention, for example The soonest expires in 3 days. Jobs without a delete sets older than rule say Kept until the set is rotated out.
This is the answer to "I deleted it on purpose, and now I want it back". Restore it before its last backup goes.
