Advanced settings
The background agent, command-line access, logs and the support bundle, the update channel and policy, and the two start-over buttons.
Settings ▸ Advanced is for when something needs a closer look, and for two buttons you may use once.
Advanced settings page
Background agent#
Agent shows Running or Stopped. Under it: the agent's version, its mode (desktop or service) and the pipe it listens on. An Administrator pill appears when the agent runs elevated.
- Restart as administrator restarts the agent with administrator rights after you approve the Windows prompt. Open-file snapshots (VSS) then work for the rest of this session, without a prompt for each run. See Needs administrator.
- Restart replaces the agent with a fresh copy. Its jobs and settings stay.
Both are refused while a backup or restore is running (E-RUN-002), and neither is shown in service mode, where Windows runs the agent.
Run as a Windows service says whether the service is installed (Installed as … with its name, or Not installed). Its Schedule & power button opens the page where service mode is switched on and off.
Command-line access (off). On adds the install folder to your PATH, so the gbm command works in any new terminal; gbm help lists what it does.
Logs and support#
- Log level: Error, Warning, Info (default), Debug or Trace. Debug and Trace write a lot; turn them back down when you are done.
- Keep logs for: 30 days (1 to 365).
- Logs folder: Open logs folder opens
%APPDATA%\GBM AI\logs(%ProgramData%\GBM AI\logsin service mode). There is oneagent-YYYY-MM-DD.loga day. It works while the agent is not running too, when the logs are wanted most. - Support bundle: Create a support bundle writes a zip of the logs, the settings without secrets, the job files without passwords, the last ten run reports and a system summary, then opens its folder. Nothing is uploaded. The bundle holds file and folder paths and your account details; read Getting help: diagnostics and the support bundle before you send it.
Updates and privacy#
- Update channel: Stable (default) or Beta. Switching back to Stable never downgrades an installed build.
- Automatic updates: Check only, Download and ask (default) or Download and install automatically. What each does is in About, and updates.
- Hardware acceleration for the UI (on). Turning it off helps on old graphics cards. It needs a restart of the app.
There is no usage-statistics switch, because GBM AI sends none.
Start over#
- Reset all settings puts every setting on every page back to its default. It asks first. Keeps jobs, licence and backups.
- Remove all jobs deletes the job definitions only. Backup files on the destinations are not touched. You can restore from them at any time. Type
REMOVEto confirm.
