This PC's drive is full (E-AGENT-003)

A backup keeps a few working files on this PC while it runs. When that drive fills up, the run stops: what it means, why it is not the destination, and what to free.

This PC's drive C: is full. (E-AGENT-003) means the backup ran out of room on this PC, not on the destination. Your destination and your earlier backups are fine.

Why a backup needs room on this PC#

While it runs, a backup keeps a few working files on the drive where GBM AI keeps its data (usually C:):

  • the list of what it has copied so far;
  • the new set's index, before it goes to the destination;
  • the index that spots files it has already stored;
  • for a cloud job, its local copy and packs before they are uploaded.

They are removed when the run ends. A job with millions of files needs a few gigabytes for them.

If the drive has less than 2 GB free when a backup starts, GBM AI builds these files on the destination instead, and says so in the run's log. So E-AGENT-003 means the drive filled up during the run: a very large job, or another program filling the drive at the same time.

What to do#

  1. In the run report, click Open Storage settings. It opens Windows Settings ▸ System ▸ Storage.
  2. Free at least 2 GB on the drive the message names. Storage Sense, temporary files, the Recycle Bin and the Downloads folder are the usual places.
  3. Run the job again. An incremental or differential job carries on from its last complete backup.

Retention does not run after a backup that stopped this way, so no older set was removed.

Not the destination#

Not enough space on the destination. (E-DEST-002) is the other one: the backup drive, share or bucket is full. Free space there, choose another destination, or keep fewer sets. See Error codes.
