Genie prompt allowances by edition

10, 40, 100 or 300 prompts a month per account, what counts as a prompt, when the count resets, and what happens when updates lapse.

Every prompt costs Genie9 money at the model provider, and a licence is bought once. So Genie has a monthly allowance: enough to set up and adjust a real set of jobs.

The allowances#

  • The count resets on the 1st of each month.
  • It belongs to your account, not to the PC: every PC signed in with the same email shares it.
  • It follows the best licence bought under your account's email. A Pro key bought under another email address counts as Home until you sign in with that address.

The chip at the top of the Ask Genie page shows what is left: 37 of 100 prompts left. The side panel shows what you have used, under Prompts used: 63 of 100.

What counts as a prompt#

Each message that gets an answer from Genie costs one prompt:

  • the first request, and each refinement you type;
  • each assumption you change with Change and Apply, because Genie redrafts;
  • a question Ask Genie why typed for you, once you press Ask.

Reading a draft, its JSON or its dry run, and saving it, cost nothing.

When they run out#

You have used this month's Genie prompts. The card says when the allowance resets, for example Your allowance resets on 1 November. The conversation stays readable, and the wizard works without any prompts: a job is a job, however it was made. Home and Pro include more; See editions is on the same card.

When your updates window has lapsed#

A licence never expires, but Genie is a service. When the year of updates and support that came with your licence ends and is not renewed, Genie drops to the Free rate of 10 a month. Every other feature of your edition keeps working. The page shows a banner with the date and a Renew updates button. See Updates and the support window.
