For dental practices

Back up your X-rays and your practice database.

Most backups protect one half. Your bitewings, panos and CBCT scans live in a folder on the imaging PC; your charts and ledgers live in the practice database. BigMind Medical Backup protects both — plus the machines they run on — and turns the imaging into a searchable patient database on the way through.

  • Digital X-rays, bitewings, pano and CBCT — from wherever your sensor software writes them
  • Open Dental, Dentrix and Eaglesoft databases, captured app-consistently
  • Whole-machine recovery for the imaging PC, front desk and server
  • Ransomware early warning that fires mid-attack
  • Open any X-ray in a browser — no viewer licence per chair

BigMind Medical Backup is a clinical-workflow and retrieval companion. It is not a regulated diagnostic device — it does not diagnose, and a clinician interprets all findings.

The gap most backups leave

A dental practice keeps its data in two places.

Ask any backup vendor which half they protect. Database-only tools miss the imaging, because the imaging is written outside the database. Imaging-only tools leave you with pictures and no charts. Recovery needs both, plus the machines.

The imaging half

Bitewings, periapicals, panoramic and CBCT volumes — usually written to a folder on the imaging PC, outside the practice database. Database-only backups silently miss all of it.

The database half

Charts, ledgers, appointments and treatment plans live in the practice-management database. An imaging-only backup leaves you with pictures and no idea whose they are.

The machines themselves

The imaging workstation, the front-desk PC and the practice server come back as whole bootable machines — not just files you then have to reinstall software around.

Your practice-management system

Named systems, and exactly what we do for each.

No guesswork about whether your software is covered — and no overstating which plan covers what.

Open Dental

Runs on MySQL. Native MySQL database backup is included on the Pro plan; on either plan the full-machine image captures the server itself.

Dentrix

Runs on SQL Server. App-consistent capture via the SQL Server VSS writer — included on both plans, so the database restores clean rather than corrupt.

Eaglesoft

Also SQL Server. Same app-consistent VSS capture on both plans, coordinated on every backup so there is no torn write to recover from.

Dexis · Carestream · sensor software

Point the agent at wherever your sensor software writes images. If it lands on disk, it is backed up — no per-modality connector to buy.

App-consistent means the database flushes to disk before the snapshot, so it restores clean instead of corrupt. SQL Server capture is included on both plans; native MySQL backup is on Pro.

When a machine dies

The practice opens tomorrow morning.

A dead imaging workstation should not close the practice. Every seat includes full-machine disaster recovery on both plans — block-level images of the imaging PC, the front-desk machine and the practice server, with five recovery paths from a single file (instant) to a whole machine. Cross-hardware restore means you can boot on whatever PC the shop had in stock.

  • Five recovery paths — one file, a folder, a cloud desktop, instant recovery, or bare-metal USB
  • Cross-hardware restore — the replacement PC does not have to match
  • Boot-tested on a schedule, with a stored screenshot as proof

Why practices choose it

Backup that earns its keep every day, not just on the bad day.

The backup you already have to run becomes the thing that finds a 2019 pano in three seconds.

Ransomware early warning

Dental practices are a standing ransomware target. Decoy files are hashed and re-verified on every backup; a tamper trips the alert mid-attack and freezes the backup chain so clean restore points survive.

Find any patient in seconds

Studies file themselves by patient from the image metadata. Search by name, chart ID, date or study type instead of digging through dated folders.

Open X-rays in a browser

View any study from the backup in any browser — no viewer licence per workstation, nothing to install on the machine you happen to be sitting at.

Old cases cost less to keep

Older studies auto-tier to Cold ($8/TB) and Deep Freeze ($5/TB), so a decade of records does not sit on your most expensive storage.

Encrypted, with an audit trail

AES-256 at rest, TLS 1.3 in transit, role-based access, and an exportable audit row for every record opened — who saw which study, and when.

Recovery you can prove

Images are boot-tested on a schedule with a stored screenshot as evidence — so you find out the backup works before the day you need it.

Getting started

Running before your next patient.

1

Start the trial

15 days, everything included, no card required.

2

Point the agent at your folders

Install on the imaging PC and the practice server, then select the image folders and the database. Backup starts immediately.

3

Patients organize themselves

Studies are read and filed into a patient > study > series database as they upload.

4

Search, view, and sleep

Open any X-ray in a browser, and know the whole practice can come back from a dead machine.

Questions

What dentists ask first.

Does this back up my practice-management software, or only the X-rays?

Both. The images are backed up from wherever your sensor software writes them, and the practice-management database is backed up too — via the SQL Server VSS writer for Dentrix and Eaglesoft (both plans), or native MySQL backup for Open Dental (Pro plan). Most competing backups do one half and leave the other exposed.

What if the front-desk PC or the practice server dies completely?

Full-machine disaster recovery is included in every seat on both plans. You get five recovery paths, from pulling back a single file to booting a whole machine, and cross-hardware restore means the replacement PC does not have to match the one that failed.

Do I need a PACS or a server to run this?

No. There is no PACS server to run and no appliance to buy — the agent backs up to the cloud and the viewer runs in your browser. If you already have a PACS, this works alongside it as the backup and archive layer.

How much space does a dental practice need?

Storage is pooled across the practice: 500 GB per user on Standard, 1 TB per user on Pro. A typical small practice generating bitewings and the occasional pano fits comfortably; CBCT volumes are larger, and you can add Cold or Deep Freeze archive storage as you grow.

Is the AI reading my X-rays and diagnosing?

No. The AI produces observations and finding flags that queue a study for a closer look, and you can ask it questions in plain language. It is a clinical-workflow and retrieval companion, not a regulated diagnostic device — it does not diagnose, and a clinician interprets all findings.
