Signing in, and what it is for

Email and a six-digit code, no password. Needed for Ask Genie, claiming licences and Genie9-sent email alerts, never for backups.

GBM AI works without an account. Backups, restores, schedules and Find never use it and never contact Genie9. Sign-in is for three things:

  • Ask Genie, which runs on Genie9's servers.
  • Claiming licences bought under your email.
  • Email alerts sent by Genie9 ("Genie9 sends it"), which go only to the address you signed in with.

  1. Open Account: click Not signed in at the bottom left of the window, then Sign in (or Account & licences). The Ask Genie page offers the same when you are signed out.
  2. Type your email and click Send code.
  3. The email holds a six-digit code. Type it and click Sign in. On the PC that has GBM AI you can instead click the button in the email; it opens the app and finishes the sign-in.

There is no password to choose or forget.

What is sent#

The page says it: What is sent: your email, this device's id, the app version, and Windows and its processor type. Activating a licence also sends its key and this PC's name, so your account can list your PCs. Never file names, paths or contents. The PC's name is what Manage devices shows. Checking the licence later, and checking for updates, do not send it.

How long it lasts#

A sign-in lasts 90 days and renews itself each time the app talks to Genie9. You are asked again only after you sign out, or after 90 days without the app going online.

Signing out#

Click your email at the bottom left, then Sign out (Account has the same button). Your licence and jobs are unchanged: a licence belongs to the PC, not to the sign-in. Ask Genie, claiming licences and Genie9-sent email alerts stop until you sign in again.
