Smart features
It can offer help before they ask.
A prompt that grows out of the launcher, choosing what it says from the kind of page the visitor is on. It runs on your page rather than inside the iframe, which is the only reason it can tell a pricing page from a support page at all.
- Off until you switch it on — nothing appears to your visitors by default
- The message follows the page, from a fixed table of eight kinds
- Most of the settings exist to decide when to stay quiet
Deciding
Comparing plans? I can tell you what each one includes.
The page kind comes from a rule table. The wording is yours — these are examples of the five you write.
It knows which page they are on. The chat itself does not.
The prompt runs on your page, so it sees the address and reacts to it. The conversation runs inside an iframe and sends no page URL at all — so the awareness is here, and only here.
- Eight kinds of page, read from the address against a fixed table.
- When the address is uninformative, the page’s title, heading and description are used — never the page’s body content.
- The same rule table runs in the visitor’s browser and on our server, so the two cannot disagree about what kind of page this is.
- A rule table rather than a model, so the same address always gets the same answer — instantly, and at no cost per page.
Five lines, placed on the right pages.
A welcome, plus one message each for browsing, deciding, acting and learning — five lines that cover every page on your site.
Browsing
They have just arrived and are looking around.
Deciding
A pricing or comparison page — the moment a question is most likely.
Acting
Contact, checkout, signup. Help here is worth more than anywhere else.
Learning
Docs, guides, support. Usually someone who already bought.
Leave one blank and our own translated line is used instead. You can also write your own version of a message for a particular language, and visitors on a page in that language see it.
How it decides
Four steps to a prompt. The last one can veto it.
Read the address
The page’s URL is matched against a fixed table of eight kinds of page — a home page, a product page, a pricing page, a contact page and so on.
Fall back to the title
When the address gives nothing away, the page’s title, heading and description are used instead, and the answer is cached for a day per page.
Pick your message
The kind of page maps to one of the five messages you wrote. Left one blank, and our own translated line is used.
Decide whether to show it
Timing, the quiet period, the per-visitor cap and any dismissal all get a say before anything appears.
Four ways to appear, from barely there to a card.
From a small indicator on the launcher to a standalone card carrying your message. Pick how much of the page it should take.
- The quietest is a small indicator on the launcher — present, but never in the way.
- It waits: a delay you set, longer for a returning visitor, and a quiet period after any conversation.
- There is a cap on how often one visitor is prompted at all, and a dismissal is remembered.
- Right-to-left layout and your chosen theme both apply to the prompt as well as the panel.
Click to enlargeIt opens with four questions your site can answer.
When the panel opens on a fresh visit, the greeting is followed by up to four questions — drawn from your own indexed pages when a scan finishes, or generated on demand from the dashboard. A visitor sees what the assistant can answer before typing a word.
- Twelve questions in your list, four shown at a time. Pin what must always appear; a hidden question stays hidden through regeneration.
- A focus line — what the assistant should lead with — steers which questions are generated and nudges answers towards it, without letting it say anything your content does not.
- Suggestions from real conversations: what visitors opened with in the last 30 days, and questions you wrote curated answers for — added only when you say so.
- A single switch turns the chips off and keeps your list.
Click to enlargeA real account: the focus line was written and the list regenerated a minute before this was taken.
The first tap starts on solid ground.
The chips sit under the greeting on a fresh thread. Tap one and it is sent as the visitor’s first message; the chips then step aside for good. A question too long for a chip stays in your list rather than the panel.
- Pinned questions always show; the rest rotate each time the panel opens.
- One slot per topic, so four chips mean four subjects.
- The label follows the widget language; the questions stay in the language you wrote or generated them in.
Click to enlargeThe same account's panel, opened fresh. Every chip is a question the indexed site answers.
How the four are chosen
From your pages to the first tap.
Sample by importance
When a scan finishes, eight of your indexed pages are sampled — product, pricing and home pages and uploaded documents first, support pages next, everything else last.
Ask for questions, not answers
One model call turns that sample and your focus line into candidate questions. They are stored on your site, so opening the panel is a plain read — nothing is generated while a visitor waits.
Merge with your list
Generated questions join the list beside your own. Pinned and hidden ones survive regeneration; only the generated ones you had not touched are replaced.
Show four
Pinned first, the rest rotated each time the panel opens, nothing over 64 characters, and two questions on one topic collapsed to one.
You stay in control
Your pages, your timing, your words.
Off until you turn it on
Installing the widget prompts nobody. You switch this on in Smart Features, on its own screen.
Your words on the pages you choose
Write a message for one address and it wins over every other rule. Addresses are matched by pattern, so a single rule can cover a whole section of your site.
Try it on your own pages.
Off by default, and on the free plan. Turn it on, walk your own site, and see where it offers to help.
