Recovery Tier 4 · ~2–3 hours · Cross-Hardware
A bootable USB that boots on any hardware.
The one recovery path that needs no cloud at all.
- WinPE-based bootable recovery USB
- Boots across chipsets, storage controllers and network cards
- Offline DISM driver injection for different hardware
- Bare-metal restore in ~2–3 hours
- Air-gap-compatible — works fully offline

When to use
Three scenarios where USB Recovery is the answer.
Hardware died, replacement is different
Replacement laptop has different chipset / NIC / storage controller.
Air-gap mandate
Restoring an isolated workstation that can't touch the internet.
Cloud is down
Entire region outage; USB + local DR cache works without network.
How it works
4 steps. ~2–3 hours wall time.
Build the USB once, boot the target off it, point the TUI at your backup, and DISM injects the right drivers before first boot — so the machine boots on whatever hardware you have.
Build the USB
`bigmind-recovery-usb` tool downloads WinPE base + BigMind agent + DISM driver harvest library
Boot the target
F12 / F11 / Esc into BIOS, select USB
TUI selects backup
Point at local DR cache or cloud, pick image, pick destination disk
DISM driver injection
Drivers harvested from a community library injected before first boot. Restored machine boots successfully on the new hardware.
What DISM driver injection actually does.
The "other free tools have basic USB but ours has DISM" claim — here’s the spec:
- Mounts the restored OS image offline
- Injects driver packages from harvested library (NIC, storage controller, ENA / xenvbd if cloud target)
- Updates the boot configuration so first boot completes successfully

Without DISM injection, you get a BSOD.
Without DISM injection: BSOD on first boot when source had different storage controller.
